Projects

So much to do …but where to start!

This move to Exmoor has been a wonderful adventure. New places, faces and opportunities. I could never have imagined what such a small seed of an idea could have blossomed in to.

We have now lived here for seven years. It has taken a lot of hard work, mainly by My Farmer so far. I’ve been in support team mode! The budget was blown several times on improving the soil, fencing, concreting the yards, re-fitting barns for purpose, drains and water, water, water. So much water falling here and all running away in the wrong places!

Safe to say that although I’ve been cheering it on, (after all, this is a working farm, and I do see it needs to work efficiently in order to succeed,) but it’s not very exciting is it!

But the time has come to move along with my projects. Finally!

Firstly, I have my new kennels for my lovely gun dogs. Currently they live in a converted stable with a run at the back. They need something especially suited to them and this, sometimes harsh, climate we live in up here.

I will be starting redecoration in the farmhouse. Which, although beautiful, is a little too ‘Magnolia’ and traditional for my taste. It needs some colour and a bit of loving. Perhaps a few new bits of furniture too, but don’t tell My Farmer!!

In the garden we have a sweet little barn that was partially converted many years ago. Originally it would have been used for housing livestock, crops or equipment. But the garden was extended over 25 years ago to include the barn, which was used as an art studio.

The wonderful garden, with spectacular moorland views, and a rather large fishing pond are also in great need of attention.

So as you can see, lots to be done! I will be posting many of my plans and updates. Let’s see how pro-active I can be in 2019. It has to beat my productivity rate in 2018! At least writing these little tales about our lives and this fabulous place has kept me busy while being shut inside…and all my photos are now in nice little folders!

I believe in silver linings. Even when they’re hard to find sometimes.
