Me…Just 'B'

I am one of five siblings, all with lovely names. But we chose to call each other by our initials! In a strange way I feel it shows a connection to each other, and is a definite sign of affection.

So this is me…just ‘B’.

I always had a creative bug inside me, and after completing a Fashion and Textiles Degree, I moved to London to work as a fashion designer, then buyer. I loved the job, but tired of the city and felt a pull to return to my childhood years growing up on the north coast of Cornwall.

After several years raising my three children and finding myself a little 'lost' behind the roles of wife and mother, I dreamt of starting on a new adventure. My husband had sold his successful advertising agency, and having long wished to return to his childhood farming roots, now seemed a perfect time to move from the 'part-time' 100 acre farm in busy Kent, to somewhere we could both be more involved.

Fun visits to view many properties in Cornwall and Devon, led to a discovery of Exmoor. Its wildness, captivating scenery, untouched nature and the warmth of its wonderful people, was unlike anywhere we had known before. We started a search for a farm that would fit our needs, and our dream.

Whilst hunting for farms with my own dear Farmer, I met a litter of Working Cocker Spaniels, and knew one would be joining me on my new venture very soon. Dogs have become a huge part of my life. My best friends now work with me on local game shoots, and share my home.

The agent’s description of the 17th Century farmhouse and its surrounding 300 acres of hill farm was to the point...'Exmoor Beauty'. Nothing truer. Finally the search was over and My Farmer, 3 young children and I, moved to Devon in 2011.

Good or bad, every day feels real and a life worth struggling for. I want to share the wild places, wonderful people, animals and farm life.

This is My Exmoor Story.
